I'm hoping that the new versions of the pictorial vocabulary guides which are being developed through the wiki can be published early next year. You can find the previous versions of the guides here.

    This is an amazing site! It has helped our English as a Second Language students tremendously with vocabulary, spelling and pronunciation. It has helped me brush up on my French and has made me want to explore some non indo-european languages. The graphics are simple and the audio very clear and easy to hear. We really appreaciate all the work that has gone into it!

    It's such an amazing site!! I'm Brazilian, and I'm currently learning Spanish and English. This site helped me A LOT, specially with pronunciation issues. Besides, as there are several versions for each language, you can compare different dialects. It would be awesome if more Latin American Spanish versions were included, considering there are more than 20 Spanish speaking countries!! Argentine or Colombian versions would do, as they are the most required dialects here.. I appreciate your work! Keep working like this, please! Thank you!!

    I am an ESL teacher, I LOVE this site! It helps me communicate with my students whose language I don't know. I am currently DESPERATE for some Vietnamese help! I don't see anything in vietnamese. My new student is too young to read Vietnamese so I need something with spoken Vietnamese. Am I not clicking on the right thing all I can find is English to Vietnamese word translations and English voice. Please Help! I see some people said this used to be available, is it somewhere else?

    Thanks for keeping this blog active.Arabic and Spanish are my current subjects of mastery. The basic Arabic grammar guide is useful. I work as a nurse in Texas.     there is no difference between latin american spanish and spanish spanish, they are the same language.
    what happend to arabic, it is the ugliest language in the world but dont drop it.

    hello.you re brilliant! i would like to see Tibetan and Nepalese here.
    Also...we are american english speakers. my daughter is non verbal...a little autistic like. I need to create a language board for her...a communication board or book...hand held is easiest.but she likes computers.do you have ideas and advice for me to create something for her? she has used handheld books at school...pointing to icons to have her needs understood.

    I wish you still had the Fantasy Vocabulary for Spanish, it was great! And I use for my Spanish 4 students, but now it is gone. Is there any way you could bring it back?

      Hello Mayan, Sorry the delay. There is actually an archived version of modern hebrew available at http://www.languageguide.org/hebrew/ . The audio is of good quality but it needs to be updated to use the latest version of the vocabulary guide which you can find at http://www.languageguide.org/

The 'Speech Challenge' now supports voice recognition on Google Chrome although it's not yet supported on IOS. Go to an interactive picture page such as insects , one of my favorites. (ou  les insects pour les étudiants de français),  After clicking on the 'Speech Challenge' button, click on the microphone toggle on the top bar, and confirm that you wish to use the microphone. Say the name of the selected insect! Upon hearing your voice, the correct word is uttered allowing you to make a quick comparison of pronunciation and word choice. Interacting  with the page this way is a lot more fun than clicking on the page or play button. Please let me know if you experience any issues or see other problems since quite a few changes were made to the scripts.

    When viewing pictorial guide pages on desktop size screen, the images now automatically reposition themselves to best take advantage of the available screen size: (for example L'espace in the French vocabulary guide or Space in the English vocabulary guide) The French vocabulary and French grammar guides went through additional rounds of review by native speakers, as well as the German , Spanish , Italian , and Portuguese vocabulary guides. In most cases two separate native speakers reviewed content which is helpful in identifying regional variants . Some technical issues affecting the Speaking Challenge were fixed as well as issues in which words or images had no audio. The expectation is that the guides be reference quality and everything should have audio. If you notice anything that seems amiss, feel free to write Tom at languageguide.org@gmail.com . The Spanish , Italian , Portuguese and English UK vocabulary guides were expanded.
